THE RACE
USA TRACK & FIELD CERTIFIED COURSE
STARTING INSTRUCTIONS
The race will start promptly at 5:30pm, Saturday, June 19, 2010, rain
or shine. Staging area is located on the school grounds. School Street
is a detour for through traffic, please cross with caution and do not
delay car traffic. Do not gather on Route 114 near starting area until
called by the Official Starter, David Katz of FLRRT. When called, enter
the section which indicates your anticipated average pace per mile.
NO JOGGING STROLLERS WILL BE ALLOWED
SPLITS
At each mile mark. A digital clock will be on display on the right side of the road at 5K.
WATER - HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE
Water will be available outside the school from 2:00pm until 5:00pm.
Runners are strongly urged to take fluids within 1 hour of the start of
the race.
REFRESHMENTS
Water at 2, 3¾, and 5 miles. Signs along the course will alert runners
to official water stations. DO NOT ACCEPT FLUIDS from unofficial
sources along the course.
FIRST AID
A professionally staffed Medical Tent will be open from 1pm until after the race on the finish field.
RACE WALK
Race walk is 5 kilometer community fun walk. It is a non-competitive
event. However, all entrants will receive the runners packet and
t-shirt and all finishers will receive a finisher's medal.

Both the 10K Run and the 5K Fun Walk begin going south on Route 114
from the round about at School Street. Turn left on St. Mary's Road to
the next round about. The 10K Run goes right at the round about (5k
Walk goes left at round about onto Manwaring Road to Route 114 then
north to West Neck Road where the 5k merges with the 10k course to the
finish) onto Ram Island Road to Cobbetts Lane, then right on Manhansett
Road until Manhansett becomes Shore Road (keep right of the Dering
Harbor Village Hall on Shore Road until Shore becomes Winthrop Road).
Follow Winthrop across bridge to Route 114. Go left on 114 to West Neck
Road. Make right onto West Neck and a quick left onto Midway Road.
Follow Midway to Bateman Road, go left on Bateman for 200 meters and
exit right onto school athletic field to finish area.

SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE
Begins at noon providing FREE transportation to the school from North
Ferry until the end of the post race party compliments of Sunrise Bus,
Inc. No bus service to or from South Ferry area.
PARKING
Signs from each ferry to parking area behind school. PLEASE DO NOT PARK
ANYWHERE ON ROUTE 114, as that is a part of the race course. Please
park along side streets and keep all driveways clear.
FREE STRETCHING CLINIC
A stretching and warm-up clinic from 4:15pm to 4:45pm on the front lawn of school, near the starting line.
RESTROOMS
Portable toilets will be located outside the American Legion and near the finish line.
DRESSING/SHOWERS AND BAG CHECK
Free Showers and bag check at the Shelter Island High School gym. This
service is provided by the Shelter Island High School sophomore class. Tips are appreciated.
POST RACE PARTY
7:00pm at the Island Boatyard
MUSIC
BARBECUE Free to all registered runners. Modest fee for
non-registered guests. Proceeds to benefit Shelter Island School Children
FREE for Runners with race number!
Free shuttle bus at end of party.
Free 200 meter runs through the official Shelter Island Run finish line
for children 4 - 10 years old. Free medals for all
participants. Bring the kiddos to the finish field at 3:45 for the run.
Raised through corporate and private donations.
OPEN DIVISION
First place male and female receive Free
round trips for two on Jet Blue Airways. First through fifth men and
women receive (respectively) $1000, $500, $300, $200 and $150 bonus
plus a trophy. Places six through ten receive $75 cash and a medal.
$1500 bonus for course record (28:41./33:12); $50 bonus for leader at
miles 2-6.
MASTERS (40 AND OVER)
First place masters male and female receive Free round trips for two on
Jet Blue Airways, $300, plus a custom-made medal. $300 bonus for course
record
(30:37/35:16). $200 to 2nd place male and female, $100 to 3rd place
male and female.

BENEFICIARIES
The first twenty-five Shelter Island 10K Runs donated more than
$500,000 to the Special Olympics
and Shelter Island charities. The goal of the 30th Annual Shelter
Island Run is to continue this tradition to meet the expanding needs of
local charities.
RADIO
The official Shelter Island Run radio station is WLNG 92.1 FM, 1600 AM. The race will be broadcast
live with pre-race coverage all afternoon.
